Toy Fair 2015 has begun and you can bet we're busy trying to get plenty of pictures for you Viners! First up: Hasbro. We were able to take a look at upcoming collectibles for Marvel, Jurassic World, Transformers, and Star Wars! Once you're done checking out all of the images, let us know if you're really tempted to buy any of them. We sure are.
Each week we take a close look at a comic book collectible. That means taking it out of the package. This week we have an early look at an upcoming Hot Toys figure courtesy of Sideshow Collectibles--Falcon Sixth Scale Figure.
We've looked at some past Hot Toys figures from Captain America: The Winter Soldier including Captain America/Steve Rogers and Winter Soldier. Falcon makes a nice addition and the figure captures Anthony Mackie's likeness pretty well. If you haven't already, be sure to check out our hands of video at the top of the page.
What's most impressive about this figure is his wings. It has quite a wingspan at 24-inches. The wings are removable, as you'll see, plus they're adjustable. If you're familiar with Hot Toys figures, you know there's plenty of articulation and a lot of options in how you position and display them.
He comes with a couple submachine guns. You'll have to decide if you want him holding the guns or holding onto the wings. His goggles are removable as well. You can also position them so they're resting on his head. Just be careful not to scratch the paint on his head.
There's always something a little freaky when you look into the eyes of a Hot Toys figure. It's almost as if they're looking into your soul.
There are two sets of wrist guards. When you use the ones that the guns attach to, they can slide right off to mimic the action where they'd easily pop into his hands when needed. The only problem I have with the figure is being able to see the joints at his elbow and head. With the arms, it's understandable since he's wearing a short-sleeve shirt. As for the neck, they could've have done what they did with the Steve Rogers figure (seen below).
The backpack was a little tricky snapping onto place. Once it's on, you'll want to just keep it on. There's a great amount of detail to it. One the sides are two parts that slide off so you can insert the wings into.
You can see the attention to detail they put into his outfit. There appears to be a bunch of straps and the stitching is something. The zipper in the front even works and you can see the t-shirt he's wearing underneath.
This detail continues throughout his outfit. He's wearing camouflage pants and shin guards. What's weird is the back of his boots, there's some tiny print about Falcon (and Sam Wilson) being a fictitious character, etc.
The nice thing about having different figures is displaying them with others. It's another way to compare how each one looks in relation to the other and if their look holds up as it should.
I've already pointed out how impressive the wings are. The problem you'll have is making sure you have room to display them when they're opened.
Another thing I like is he can stand on his own with the wings on and fully extended. He does come with a stand, which we'll look at in a sec. But despite the little added weight of the wings, he can still stand up.

If his wings and backpack didn't look cool enough, there's also a hidden switch to turn on some LED lights.
You don't have to worry about will he fall over when someone bumps the shelf (or where you have him on display). He does come with a big stand. The base has a S.H.I.E.L.D. logo on it and there's a nameplate with his name.
The stand is similar to the one we saw with the Spider-Man sixth scale figure. Since he's a flying character, you can move the pole to position him in aerial poses.
Hot Toys and Sideshow Collectibles has done it again. Each figure in in the Winter Soldier line has been great (although I never got a close look at Black Widow).
Falcon is now available for pre-order at SIDESHOW COLLECTIBLES. The cost is $249.99. Sure, that sounds like a lot but it's what you would expect for Falcon with his wings and detail. You can check the link for more information on the figure. It's schedule to ship between March and April.
Anthony Mackie did a fantastic job as Falcon in the movie. If you enjoyed it or are a fan of the character, you'll definitely want this figure. The wingspan is impressive. It looks almost majestic on display. Serious collectors won't want to pass on this. If you have a birthday or something coming up, this would be a great item to add to your wish list. If you've been saving up some money for your collectible purchases, you might want to seriously consider this one. Thanks to Sideshow for giving us an early look. It's a great addition to the other Hot Toys figures.
It just wouldn't be Toy Fair without a whole a lot of LEGO sets and characters, would it? This year, the company's booth showed off a bit of DC and Jurassic World and a whole lot of Marvel and Star Wars. Check 'em out and let us know if you're tempted to buy anything! That Darkseid is just so cute, isn't he?

Get ready to say, "Aw, I want that!" like, a dozen times. Funko is known for creating adorable collectibles and its booth at this year's Toy Fair most certainly did not disappoint. Once you're all set looking at all of the cute pictures, tell the world what you're going to eventually buy.
If you want quality statues, odds are you've heard of Kotobukiyah. The company puts an impressive amount of detail into its creations and it had plenty to show-off at this year's Toy Fair. From capturing the most exciting part of the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer to making Wonder Woman look like a total boss, there was a lot for our eyes to enjoy. Once you're finished looking at the images, tell the world if you're tempted to set aside some money and buy one of the statues.
If you're looking to go to San Diego Comic Con 2015 this year, taking place July 8th through July 12th, then keep the date Saturday, February 21st in mind. At 9:00 AM PST, open online registration for this year's comic con opens up. The landing page for said event opens up at 8:00 AM PST and you'll need to be in the room before registration starts. However, getting your tickets for SDCC can be a little confusing, here's a few rules for the sign-up event, from the SDCC page.
Only those with a confirmed Member ID account are eligible to participate in Open Online Registration. If you purchased the Preview Night option during attendee preregistration, you are not eligible to participate in Open Online Registration or buy badges for others.
Your browser should have JavaScript and cookies enabled to function reliable in the EPIC waiting room.
You can buy badges for up to three people - yourself included - during your registration session. Each person must have their own Member ID and must be eligible to participate.
In order to buy a badge for another attendee, you will need their Member ID and LAST NAME. You do not need their Member ID password.
You must enter the EPIC waiting room before 9:00 AM Pacific Time. You will need your personal registration code to enter.
Only use one browser tab or instance when trying to purchase badges. Multiple browser tabs will confuse the registration process and cause your transaction to fail.
Prices range from $35 to $50 for single day passes this year, with child, senior, and military discounts keeping the prices a bit lower. You need to be enrolled with their Member ID system as well, in order to get tickets for the show.

As much as we enjoy some of the classic costumes that have stood the test of time, it's always interesting seeing a new take on a popular character's iconic look. In this case, Square Enix is offering a different take on a few of Marvel's heroes, a slew of new designs for Batman, an adorable version of DC's trinity, and the company produced a few Arkham Knight collectibles, too. Give the images a look and let us know what you think about the figures!

On this week's episode of Gotham, Fish is still being held in captivity. She rounds up the troops for some water. Barbara heads back to her place, drunk, to find Ivy and Selina hanging out there. She finds out that Jim left his keys there.
Meanwhile, Jim and Leslie enjoy a trapeze act at the local circus. It's the Flying Graysons. A clown gets out of a clown car and beats one of them. Jim gets up and using his power of the law to stop it.
Penguin's mother is the new singing talent at the club and no one seems to be enjoying it. One man boos loudly and Penguin makes him regret it. Back at the circus, Gordon confronts the man who attacked the Graysons. Apparently, the Graysons and Lloyds don't get along.
Gordon looks for the snake dancer and the son, Jerome talks to Gordon. Jerome thinks something is wrong since she didn't take anything with her. Gordon wants to let her snake go to help find Layla, his mother. The snake leads him to a dead body, Jerome's mother. Apparently, the ringmaster knew.
Fish rallies the troops and says they need to stand up because they're being used as spare parts for transplants.
Gordon brings in a bunch of performers into the station to find out who killed Layla. He talks to Jerome about who Layla was and if she had enemies. He finds that one Grayson and one Lloyd both shared a bed with her. Jerome speaks incredibly maturely about his mother. Bullock and Gordon learn that the Lloyds and Graysons are feuding over a stolen horse from the early 1900s.
Fish has everyone prepared. Some men enter with guns and asks someone to raise their hand and step forward. Fish takes control and says they need to talk. Fish says things need to change. She says she won't give up the man they need unless they get food and water and if she doesn't get it, she'll kill the man. The other inmates start pummeling the guy until he is dead. Fish demands the manager to come down.
Nymga comes in and talks to Essen, Gordon, and Thompkins and they come to the conclusion that one of the two families involved were off doing other things. A psychic comes in and says Layla sent him a message from the other side.
James and Leslie head to under a bridge and find a bloody ax from the Hellfire Club. Back at the GCPD, Gordon is mad their date turned into a crime investigation. They make up and bring in Mr Cicero, the psychic. Gordon explains they found a hatchet and Cicero is now an accessory to murder. Gordon says he's protecting someone. Gordon brings in Jerome, and he sits next to Jerome. Gordon says Jerome killed his mother. Cicero admits he is Jerome's father. Jerome has a turn and gets all creepy and admits he killed his mother then has a laugh.
Thompkins and Gordon share a kiss and Barbara walks in on them at GCPD.
Victor walks into the club and Butch follows, Penguin is all freaked out. Butch works for Zsasz now and Victor says Butch now works for Penguin.
At the Wayne Manor, Bruce is all dressed up and heads to Wayne Enterprises to sit at the head of the table. Bruce has questions for the board. He asks some serious questions and the board seems to brush him off.
I really thought the Ringmaster was played by Jordan Peele in the first shot of him. It wasn't and I was a little disappointed. In addition, the psychic, Cicero, played Felix Faust on Constantine. That was pretty awesome to see. The purple hat was a bit hitting the audience over the head though.
We have a completely different Fish Mooney here. She's like a real character now not in this weird overacting world. Again, I actually like the over-the-top version, but this version of Fish is insanely different, but in a good way. Her new role and story are both frustrating and interesting. I don't like the idea she was just randomly kidnapped. It seems too convenient and like they needed to do something with the character but didn't want her to leave Gotham.
How is Barbara fine with these two girls staying at her place? Much like last week with Gordon fine with them being there, apparently, people living at your place is a totally normal thing in Gotham that results with characters being completely cool with it.
Leslie Thompkins is a scientist who not only entertains the idea of psychics but seems to believe in it. She says there are things outside of science we don't understand pretty much saying "supernatural things exist because science can't explain everything." Look, I know we're in Gotham and all, but that really bugs me.
As much as I despise the idea of Gotham flatout over-promoting the idea that Joker is in this episode, it was handled decently. Cameron Mondaghan was simply brilliant in the role as Jerome and easily had the performance of the episode. You could even say it was chilling at moments, when he showed his true nature. Who would have thought that what I was looking forward to the least was the best part of the episode.
"If we have a son, we'll name him Gordon." Nope, you're going to name him "Dick." Enough Gotham, stop doing these not so subtle nods at the audience. We get it, the parents of Dick Grayson are getting married. We're not idiots and frankly, we don't even need to see that. It adds nothing to show.
Setting aside the idea that this show loves shoehorning in as much comic book stuff as possible to please fans, which tends to boggle the show up, this was a better episode than the last few, but it was a tad boring. It's a step up in the fact that it wasn't bad, and most of the characters had some sort of purpose here, for the most part, even though Barbara is one of the worst written characters not only on this show but in all of comic book television. Hopefully, the show can get some direction back in the next week or so, since this season is coming to a close.

Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce the May 2015 launch of Swords of Sorrow, the genre-spanning crossover event featuring an all-star line-up of female authors, headlined by Gail Simone (Batgirl, Birds of Prey). Debuting with a core Swords of Sorrow series by Simone, the crossover continues throughout May with tie-in titles including the Swords of Sorrow: Vampirella / Jennifer Blood miniseries written by Nancy A. Collins (Vampirella, Swamp Thing); the Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special by Mairghread Scott (Transformers: Windblade); and the Swords of Sorrow: Masquerade / Kato special by G. Willow Wilson (Ms. Marvel) and Erica Schultz (M3). Subsequent months will debut related projects by additional female authors, including Leah Moore, Marguerite Bennett, Emma Beeby, and Mikki Kendall. The crossover event brings together Dynamite's wide roster of female characters, including the iconic Red Sonja, Dejah Thoris (of the popular Edgar Rice Burroughs' Warlord of Mars franchise), and Vampirella.
Gail Simone, who has been planning the project since her involvement was announced in July, says, "Here's the thing: I love pulp adventure, always have. But as male-dominated as comics have often been, the pulp adventure world seems to be even more so. Most of the big name stars and creators are dudes, and that's fine, it's great. But it hit me... what if that wasn't the case? What if adventure pulps had also been written with female readers in mind, and awesome female characters in the spotlight? That's the scenario we are imagining, and it's just been a blast. The key players are Red Sonja, Vampirella, and Dejah Thoris, but it's such an epic-spanning, world-hopping event that we also have Kato, Jungle Girl, Lady Rawhide, Jennifer Blood, and so many more. It's the crossover I dreamed of when I was a kid, and now we get to make it happen."
Simone's core Swords of Sorrow story serves as the starting point for a new universe of pulp adventure. Illustrated by Sergio Davila (Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure), the series features the supernatural heroine Vampirella, Martian princess Dejah Thoris, crimson-tressed swordswoman Red Sonja, martial artist Kato (from filmmaker Kevin Smith's reboot of The Green Hornet), primal warrior Jungle Girl, and many more. Drawn from a dozen worlds and eras to face off against a legendary evil that threatens their homelands, Dynamite's fiercest females must overcome their differences to harness the power of mystical blades -- the eponymous Swords of Sorrow -- in final conflict.
Gail Simone also serves as the architect for all storylines tied into the event, providing direction to her personally selected team of writers. "We got the best writers around, gave them a fun combination of characters and just let them go wild," says Simone. "It's creators like G. Willow Wilson, Marguerite Bennett, Nancy A. Collins and more, with book titles like Vampirella vs. Jennifer Blood, Kato vs. Masquerade, and Red Sonja vs. Jungle Girl. More about these tag teams will be coming soon, but it's just a ridiculous amount of fun to set these characters against each other, and I'm very proud of the astounding team of writers, who I hand-picked from among the very best of new female adventure writers. There's never been a crossover event in comics like this, ever."
Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, says, "The prospect of Gail Simone helming this historic event (and I really think "historic" is the applicable term, because we've never seen such a far-ranging cast of female icons before) would have been enough to make the Dynamite team ecstatic ten times over... but then Gail took it to the next level. She proposed to make the event even bigger by creating a tapestry of interwoven stories, a work of art to which many of today's most revered female talents could contribute. What would have been a big event suddenly became a Grand Event, and we couldn't be more pleased with the incredibly talented creators she's brought together and working hand in hand with our editorial team to create some of the best comics of the summer."
Several of the participating writers contributed their thoughts on the event:
Nancy A. Collins, author of the Swords of Sorrow: Vampirella / Jennifer Blood miniseries (illustrated by Dave Acosta), says, "I'm having to play catch-up; I don't have a lot of experience with tie-ins and cross-over events, as the last one was the Children's Crusade crossover at Vertigo, back in the early 1990s -- but luckily, Gail Simone has been a great help in that regard. I think that the Swords of Sorrow event will give Dynamite's core fan-base what they want while helping to introduce new readers to all the wonderful characters the company has to offer." Regarding her miniseries, Collins adds, "Both Vampirella and Jennifer Blood touch on elements I've exploited in my prose novels, especially the Sonja Blue series, which is an urban fantasy with strong roots in crime noir and hardboiled pulp fiction."
Mairghread Scott, author of the Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special (illustrated by Mirka Andolfo), says, "There are few times in your career where you get asked to write a book made entirely of villains (and one tortured anti-hero), and I got to do it for the intro issue to some of the biggest names in comics. I've pulled out all the stops on this one, trading in the morally gray antagonists of my Transformers work for some straight-up evil women. It's been a blast. Swords of Sorrow: Chaos buries you in some of the darkest minds in Dynamite's roster. These are the kind of ladies who are fond of how blood stains look on six-inch heels and they make no apologies for it."
Erica Schultz, co-author alongside G. Willow Wilson on the Swords of Sorrow: Masquerade / Kato special (illustrated by Noah Salonga), says, "I love being a part of a crossover event, especially with these other amazing talents. Gail and Dynamite have put together a really great group of ladies to tell such a fantastical story. I know everyone is going to love it. Having worked on Revenge for Marvel, and my own series M3, I have a penchant for writing kick-ass ladies, and these stories fall right in line."
Swords of Sorrow #1 features a variety of cover editions, including a Main cover by industry superstar J. Scott Campbell (Danger Girl); variants by Jenny Frison, Emanuela Lupacchino; a subscription edition by Robert Hack available to fans placing preorders with their local retailers; and incentive editions by Joyce Chin, Tula Lotay, Nei Ruffino, Cedric Poulat. Swords of Sorrow: Vampirella / Jennifer Blood #1 and the Swords of Sorrow: Masquerade / Kato special both feature covers by Billy Tan, while the Swords of Sorrow: Chaos special spotlights Joyce Chin.
The May Swords of Sorrow releases will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors' March 2015 Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market. Comic book fans are encouraged to reserve copies of Swords of Sorrow #1 and related titles with their local comic book retailers. Week 3 of DC's Convergence is offering quite a few books featuring characters from Crisis on Infinite Earths with great creative teams behind them. One of those books hitting stores on April 22nd is NEW TEEN TITANS, with returning writer Marv Wolfman. He and artists Nicola Scott and Marc Deering answered a few of our questions about this upcoming book.
COMIC VINE: Marv, you're known for your runs on both NEW TEEN TITANS and TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS, how did it feel to get to work with some of these characters again?
MARV WOLFMAN: I've almost never stopped writing them. I wrote the original book for 16 years but then wrote short stories or mini series since. And of course George Perez and I did the graphic novel 2 years ago. And because of the timing of our story I got to do more with Jericho and Kole which actually uses a storyline I started back in 1984 but we didn't follow through on. But back then Kole asks a question which we didn't answer until now. It might be nice and very surprising to readers what I wanted to do 31 years ago. It'll definitely be controversial.
I love writing these characters and only wish Raven was in it, but she wasn't part of the group during this specific timeline.
CV: Nicola and Marc, when it came to the costumes, did you do any updating to make it look a bit more contemporary or did you stick with the classic costume representing the era? Also, where there any challenges within that?
NICOLA SCOTT: I tried to keep it as classic as possible. I wanted everyone to look just how they are remembered. I think I updated Kole just a little. No-one needs to see her underpants anymore.
Also, I tried to stick with the look of pre-Crisis Gotham. It wasn't an overly stylised gothic city at that point, more like a traditional modern city, New York-ish.
MARC DEERING: The costumes were all up to Nicola and she did an amazing job. Nicola is the George Perez of my generation of artists. Her attention to detail and storytelling is just wonderful.
CV: Was there anyone character you were more excited to work with over the others?
MW: I never got to write Kole much before she died in the Crisis so I was looking forward to this.
NS: I love all these guys but it was definitely Donna that I was most excited about. As soon as I was approached to do this story my first question was about the red jumpsuit. It was my deciding factor. LOVE that era of design.
MD: Donna Troy. Why? Strong, confident, and beautiful.
CV: Was there a particular team line-up you wanted over anything else?
MW: I don't know about the other books but I was assigned the Titans during this timeline as well as using the Tangent Doom Patrol. So it wasn't a question of choosing the teams.
NS: I was disappointed to not have Wally. I LOVE him and would've loved to draw him for a couple of issues. Alas! But everyone else I was hoping for was right there, front and centre!
CV: What's this upcoming Convergence story about?
MW: The Tangent Doom Patrol had come back in time to save their future world while the Titans want to save Gotham City. So we have totally motivated groups whose goals put them diametrically against each other. It's also about Cyborg being the lynchpin for both groups which puts him in the danger spot. It's also about Nightwing and Starfire at a crucial point in their marriage (!!!) as well as Wonder Girl who is alone here because her husband isn't with her and the other Titans are going thru their own severe problems. And of course we have an entire plot, too.
CV: What was it like bringing in the Tangent Universe's Doom Patrol into this book?
MW: It was fun. I read them in the original Tangent Comics but just casually. I thought Dan Jurgens put together a really fun group.
NS: They haven't had many appearances so it was kinda really fun to balance some really well known and loved characters with some less familiar.
Their story is so loaded with tragedy that they're desperately trying to fix. It really raises the stakes of the conflict.

A little bit of time has gone by since their last mission and they spot another arch off in the distance. Of course, the group goes off to find out what the arch is made of and what beast does it represent. In addition, Sacajawea may or may not be pregnant and she is forced into getting some help.
I love the back and forth between the crew on this expedition. It feels like it's building towards a mutiny and I keep wondering how long this can all last, with monsters killing off their men, before people get fed up and leave or try to take over from Lewis and Clark. Each issue is a power-struggle and at some point, something is going to give.
This issue focuses more on the relationships between these characters. Writer Chris Dingess spends the opening half of the book developing these characters a bit more and where they are at this moment. We get a lot from Sacajawea here and not just the fact she may be with child. We get a lot more about her character just by how she acts while dealing with pain and morning sickness. She's tough, tougher than the rest of the crew, in fact. She's become the stand-out character of the series and one of the best developed ones at that.
Artist Matthew Roberts and colorist Owen Gieni continue to do some stellar work on this book. I love the style of Roberts' pencils and how it gives this book a very unique look and Gieni's colors do the same. His color work is very unlike every other book's colors. It has a distinct flavor that fits the art and the time period this book takes place in. As always, Roberts' creature creation is always intriguing as he takes bits and pieces of different animals and smashes them together.
The downside to the issue and the start of the new arc is that it feels like a bit more of the same. We don't get too much of anything new, aside from "there's a new arch. Here's a monster." However, it's really hard to follow that last issue which was easily the best issue of the series, thus far.
What this issue of MANIFEST DESTINY does well is set up the next arc after quite the tremendous issue the month prior. It may be a decent place for new readers to jump on, but folks reading since the opening act might find this issue a tad lackluster. It almost feels like this issue is following a repeating formula. Regardless of that, the character development is the focus and it's done extremely well. On top of that, the coloring and art are beautiful, and MANIFEST DESTINY continues to be one of my favorite on-going series. I highly suggest buying the first two trades of this series and jumping on while you can!
Right with the awesome cover, you can tell this is a comic that's going to be a good time for your eyes. Jorge Corona, Steve Wands, and Gabriel Cassata's visuals continue to do a brilliant job creating characters and an atmosphere that oozes the perfect blend of adventure, humor, and horror. I especially love how there's just slight changes when we jump to a drastically different point in time or place. Whether it's aiming to frighten you, make you smile or drop your jaw, this visual team nails it on each and every single page. Sure, the attention to detail fluctuates at times (there's some very crowded moments), but the good vastly outweighs the bad and everything from the character work to the environments to the colors delivers. I just wish we had a chance to see more of the big clash! I'm sure they could have plenty of fun fleshing that out. Maybe we'll see more of it in the next issue.
Jacob Semahn's story refuses to slowdown. Now that many of the characters have been given a satisfactory introduction, more and more of this fantastical world is spilling into these pages. Not only does the story with Josiah and Zoe make some very interesting progress, but there's also a very interesting reveal about this world's history. At times it feels like this series has too much on its plate, but the teasers and developments continue to keep my attention and I love how the series incorporates so many different tones. We could go from a guy having a blast as he fights monsters to something terribly tragic and neither moment takes away from the other one.
I'm glad GONERS doesn't take a slow burn approach with its storytelling, but part of me feels like it's piling on the worldbuilding a little too much. It's great they're expanding this surreal world, but I feel like there hasn't been much time to let certain developments sink in before we're hit with yet another reveal. Also, considering just how surreal this world is and all that it has to offer, I can't help but not feel as shocked as I should be by the cliffhanger. I'm thinking the restricted view is intentional or there's a plot device that'll be revealed. Maybe the next chapter will make me eat my words, but given all that we've witnessed, I'm left feeling curious instead of
GONERS' amazing visuals grabs my attention and then its evergrowing story keeps me around. Every panel has something that's worth looking at for more than a few seconds and there's some ginormous mythos building going on in this story. It may feel like they're hitting you with a little too much, but it's still incredibly interesting and creative stuff. I'm still left asking plenty of questions about certain elements, but that's part of the fun, after all. Part of me wishes this chapter focused a little more on the fun and charming moments before getting into the heavier material, but it's still more than enough keep me thinking about everything that's going on. And man, there's a lot going on. If this fun and twisted take on fantasy adventure stories sounds appealing to you, I strongly recommend beginning with the first issue.
