We've talked about the upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. television show a little bit back in August, and earlier today we caught wind of some more information. Rumor has it that S.H.I.E.L.D., the upcoming television series that will be produced by The Avengers director Joss Whedon will begin filming very soon -- as in this coming January. While no official announcement about the start of production has been made, an open casting call was recently posted on Television Show Auditions for actors looking to get a spot on the upcoming series. The show will be an off-shoot of The Avengers movie and the Marvel movie universe, but will not be directly associated with the films which means that if you have not seen The Avengers (and shame on you, if you haven't) you won't be lost when you watch this upcoming show.

"'S.H.I.E.L.D.' will be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sharing constancy with the films in that franchise,” the listing reads. "'S.H.I.E.L.D.' will be independent from 'The Avengers' film, and people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies can jump right in and understand the storylines. There will generally be new characters and agents who are not superheroes, and even though they are a large organization, they will be underdogs since they still exist in that superhero universe. Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in 'Iron Man' I & II, 'Thor,' and 'The Avengers.' The series will center on his character. Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Ming-Na Wen has been cast as Agent Melinda May, an ace pilot and weapons expert."

There was some speculation about whether actor Clark Gregg, who played Agent Phil Coulson would appear in the upcoming show and it seems, based on the information that's been leaked that the series will be centered around his character. This is great news for those that were unhappy with the ending of The Avengers (don't worry, we won't spoil it here).

What do you think of ABC and Marvel Studios' decision to create a S.H.I.E.L.D. television show and is it something you are looking forward to watching? Let us know in the comments, below.
