2011 is over! Now it's time for 2012! Sorry, it's hard to get really excited about a new number; however, I can EASILY get excited about this week's Community Star Award, like I do every week, because it's my favorite part of Comic Vine. So let's get this hot air balloon of fun of the ground!
This week, we give our final award of 2011 to one of the more zany characters here at the vine, and to celebrate, I asked him some hard hitting questions, which he answered with authority. This week we honor a man who always signs his posts with an extra large "BB," Billy Batson.
Billy Batson has been here on the vine since July of 2010, but he spends an amazing amount of time here on the site. He's hit over 42,000 posts in the forums and over 88,000 wiki points. The great thing about his wiki work on the site is that it's really spread out. Those 88,000 points from from work on over 5,000 pages on this site. He has the most points (558) on the John Constantine page. This isn't even where BB shines though. He's mostly found hanging out in the forums putting in his two hilarious cents on anything and everything. I figured since he liked to chat it up so much, we'd spend most of the time on this Community Award having one delightful talk.
InferiorEgo: Billy Batson! Welcome to the prestigious world of the Comic Vine Community Star. Before we begin, you're not going to sign every post with "BB," are you?
Billy Batson: If you really want it then sure.
IE: You've been here for a bit over a year, yet you've managed to hit the 40,000 mark for forum posts. How much time a day do you spend here?
BB: Depends on the day. If I'm not busy then probably about 3-5 hours.
IE: That's half a work day! How did you find out about Comic Vine?
BB: Pretty much googled different types of battles and most of the results brought me here.
IE: It happens to all of us. Why did you pick the name "Billy Batson" for your user-name?
BB: Because of my unlimited imagination and inferiorego was already taken...
IE: I heard "inferiorego" was the third most requested name here on the vine... weird. What was the first comic book you ever read?
BB: Most likely it was some issue of Donald Duck.
IE: Donald Duck is some solid stuff. What series are you currently reading?
BB: Here's a list what I'm going to get for Christmas and read these titles during and after Christmas; StormWatch (the WildStorm one), Transmetropolitan (have the whole series but still haven't read it), DMZ, Hellblazer, Northlanders, Greek Street, The Unwritten, Fables, Diggles' Losers, Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E., The Filth, a few Vertigo Crime novels, Gotham Central, the entire 2nd volume of the Flash and some other stuff.
IE: Lots of Vertigo stuff. Just what I like to see. What is your favorite comic series of all time and why?
BB: It's a tie between Siege and Fear Itself. What can I say? Brilliant writing, great character development and sweet moments.
...
...
Gotcha.
Actually it's 100 Bullets. The best damn noir series ever made. The best crime writer (Azzarello) wrote it and the best noir artist (Risso) made it alive with his pictures. And let's not forget the covers and the artist which were done by one of the best cover writers of ALL TIME (Dave Johnson)! This series' covers alone could make it in top 100 covers of all time. The series was filled with flawed but great characters and so many, MANY plot twist. You really can't guess what's going to happen next.
IE: I was worried you actually meant that. I wanted to cry... or cancel this week's Community Star. Joking aside, people tend to say you are one hilarious character here on the vine. Where did you learn your comedic talents?
BB: Learned from the worst best.
IE: Well, I still haven't won a funniest viner award, so I hardly think I'm the best. A lot of people say, because of Mayans or something, that the world is going to end in 2012. How do you think the world will end this year?
BB: Vampire Robot Nazis that are also Zombies. Or Spider Jerusalem will show up and tell that there will be no end. AHHHH! *insert Spider Jerusalem raging picture here*
IE: I hope it's the Spider Jerusalem that looks like Alan Moore, from issue #1 of Transmet. That would be tops. Speaking of tops, did you get anything good for Christmas?
BB: Yeah, lots of cool and lame presents this year. Most notable was the egg slicer that I got from my dad. You can slice soft things with it and it's white. I'll name it Mr. Zsasz.
IE: I hope you put a mark on it every time you slice an egg for a Cobb Salad. Do you have any New Year's resolutions?
BB: Guess I'll try harder with my studies.
IE: What's the last comic book you read?
BB: Transmetropolitan #15
IE: Any wacky predictions for 2012, non-deadly ones? I'm only asking because someone told me you're a modern day Nostradamus.
BB: Well the economy, specially in Europe is getting worse. No surprises there. And Mat Elfring is going to buy a hat. A surprise there.
IE: I got a new hat for Christmas... How did you know? While we're on predictions, which characters do you think will die this year?
BB: You mean besides Deadpool? :p If he is going to die that is.
For DC: Probably no one because of the New 52 or some of characters whose series isn't doing well. I'm looking at you OMAC and Hawk & Dove.
Vertigo: Some bystanders and either Chief Red Crow or Dashiel Bad Horse.
Image: The Walking Dead: most of the members of team Grimes who isn't Rick, Michonne, or Carl. Okay, Carl might.
Marvel: Every character dies a little when they're written by Bendis or Fraction.
Anyone who [hasn't] died recently and is going to be involved in the upcoming event (Avengers vs the X-men) is a choice so let's see.
The short list of possibilities:
- Hulk
- Iron Man
- Cyclops
- Storm
- Spider-Woman
- Moon Knight
- Black Panther
- X-23
- Hank Pym
Also if anyone of these dies I want full credit on CV's articles.
IE: Who's better looking John Stamos or George Clooney?
BB: Clooney. Grey is sexy.
IE: Who'd win in a fight, John Stamos or George Clooney?
BB: Batman vs a possibly auto tuned glee singer, who would win? Hmmm...
IE: Well BB, thanks for being a part of the community star award, any last words?
BB: CROATOA!
Thanks Billy Batson for taking the time out of your busy day. We'll see you next week for another amazing Community Star Award!
