Welcome to another amazing, spontificus, fantastical, malizipited week on the Comic Vine Community Star! (CHEERS! APPLAUSE! ROSES!) This week we have not only an awesome family-man as our Community Star, but he is truly the embodiment of of awesomeness. This week the award goes to none other than PowerHerc!
PowerHerc joined Comic Vine on October 30th (Devil's Night!), 2009. Since then, he's posted in the forums over 21,000 times and gained over 35,000 points on the wiki section of the site. Over 16,000 of his points come from one, single page: The Hercules page. That's right, PowerHerc has put almost half of the work he's done on the vine into a singular page. That's pretty amazing.
PowerHerc tends to work a lot on singular pages rather than spreading the love around. He has more than 2,000 points on The Thing, almost 2,000 on Captain America, 1,800 on Thor, 1,500 on Billy Batson, 1,300 on Zeus, and the list goes on and on. PowerHerc has put his work into over 300 sites.
As mentioned before, he's very involved in the forums, and at times, he writes blogs to get other users talking. One of my favorite blogs he's written is titled "Which version of Hercules is the best?" PowerHerc basically goes through a bunch of different versions of that character and wants to know what everyone else thinks. Pretty self-explanatory, yet I still explained it.
Enough of this jibber-jabber though. Let's get to what really matters, these ridiculously awesome interviews.
How are you doing today?
- I'm doing great! Hearty and hale!
Anything new or super exciting going on?
- No, just a normal night at home with the kids while my wife is at work.
How did you first come across Comic Vine?
- I first stumbled across ComicVine while searching for comic art/images.
You have over 16,000 points of work on the Hercules page. How much time do you think it took you to write all that?
- I can't even hazard a guess about the time I've spent on the "Hercules" page, but I still have more to do regarding alternate universe versions so it'll be even more.
Oh man, I hope you break records, like the 40,000 point mark. Aside from Hercules, who is your favorite super hero?
- The Thing (Ben Grimm) is my second favorite superhero. A Kirby original; He's truly unique and truly great. He's also Marvel's original tough guy!
I heard he also likes to clobber, but I can't find a link to back up that claim. What was the first comic book you remember reading?
- I remember trying to read "Captain America "#192 when I was just learning to read and having to get a lot of help from my older sister.
What was the first comic you bought and why?
- The first comic I remember buying was "Action Comics" #456. I bought it because the cover showed Superman being attacked by a shark which was a pretty big thing back then due to the movie "Jaws." Superman battled the Shark in this issue and I learned a bit about the ozone layer.
The first time I saw that cover, I immediately thought, "this issue is jumping the shark, literally." What is your least favorite current television show, one that just makes you go "AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!" and why?
- My favorite current TV show is "Shameless" (which is on Showtime). I like it because the cast is so great, the premise is new/fresh and the stories are absolutely crazy & unpredictable. My least favorite is PoliticsNation which is hosted by Al Sharpton. I can't believe anyone would give that demagogue gas-bag his own show/forum.
I agree. I can't believe that guy is still on television. Do you think I could play the part of Hercules in a major motion picture?
- You as Hercules? Maybe, but even if you can act you'd still need to have the right physique and presence to do the Lion of Olympus justice. Do you?
I can act my way out of a paper bag, but I'm too doughy, I guess. That's why there's CGI, right? Who's your favorite artist and why?
- There are oh so many artists I love, too many . . . but I can narrow it down to Jack Kirby, George Perez, John Buscema, John Byrne, Ed Benes, Alan Davis and Mike Deodato, Jr. These guys epitomize what comic artists are supposed to be able to do; draw anything from any angle while telling a story.
Same question, but replace artist with writer.
- The writer I like the best is Ed Brubaker. He made Captain America cool and relevant to a broad range of today's comic readers (though Cap was always cool, imo).
What time do you go to bed, during the week?
- I stay up too late almost every night, getting to bed between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. even though I get up at 6:15 a.m.
In the magical real world, what do you do for a living?
- I work in law enforcement and have for nearly 23 years (it was the closest I could get to being a superhero).
Agreed. Officers are real life super-heroes. Anyone who disagrees is insane. Any other upcoming plans with the wiki portion of the site?
- Yeah, I need to flesh-out the initial "Incredible Hercules" story-arc and I need to add some text covering all the stories about the 23rd century Hercules by Bob Layton.
How many push ups can you do in a row, in space?
- In the real world I can do between 130 and 135 consecutive push-ups in a single set to failure on a good day ( I only got 127 this morning). In space I might be able to go on indefinitely.
Quick: You are on a plane and you have 5 minutes left to live. What do you do?
- Contact my Wife and Kids to tell them; I love them, I always have and I always will.
Thanks PowerHerc for taking the time to answer all these questions, and thanks to everyone who participated in this week's voting thread! We'll see you guys on Monday for another voting thread and next Friday for another Community Star! PEACE OUT!
